Lonely Planet has written an article titled “Take a virtual vacation to these 6 destinations,” where Japan is listed as number two. It goes on to mention the YouTube livestream from the Hyogo Park of the Oriental White Stork, located right here in Toyooka City. On the livestream, you can watch Oriental White Storks on a nest tower in real time!

The Oriental White Stork once lived in the wild in Japan. In 1971, the last wild Oriental White Stork disappeared from the skies of Japan. Toyooka City in Hyogo Prefecture created a breeding and research facility to begin breeding and raising them in captivity. In 2005, they were successfully reintroduced into the wild for the first time. Currently, about 180 Oriental White Storks fly grandly in the skies of Toyooka. We continue to preserve their habitat through friendly farming methods, creating artificial nest towers, and more.

In addition to the livestream mentioned in the article, the park has since released another livestream, which currently has four chicks learning how to flap their wings in preparation to one day take flight.
