Keitoku-In Temple is famous for having 44 screens of fusuma (Japanese sliding screens) paintings by the Japanese artist Roshu Nagasawa, of the Maruyama school. The six rooms in our main temple contain an 8-screen painting of a tiger, and an 8-screen painting of a flower and bird. These works demonstrate the unique style of Nagasawa, who, while maintaining the delicate style of Okyo, also introduce new techniques and style, and serve as valuable documents to study the trajectory of painting styles in the end of the Edo Period. The Hojo (abbot’s quarters) Wall and Sliding Panel paintings are designated as a cultural property by Kyoto prefecture.
