Kasumi, located about 30km to the west of Kinosaki can be accessed in about 40 min by car or 35 min by train along the JR San’in Line. Best known for its Matsuba-gani or snow crab in the winter and beaches and marine sports in the summer. You will also find various hiking routes through the natural landscape, cultural experiences at Daijyo-ji Temple, a museum for wood culture and more.

About 36km south of Kinosaki is Yabu city. You can easily drive to Yabu by car in about 50 minutes or take the train along the JR San’in line to Yabu Station in about 1 hour. In Yabu you will find one of the countries 100 best waterfalls, an old mining town, shrines with stunning autumn foliage and more.

Going even further south of Yabu you will come to Asago city. The most famous site here is Takeda Castle Ruins, or better known as “The Floating Castle”. Named such because in the fall, and somtimes spring, morning fog fills the area below the castle making it look as though it were floating. Then even further south of Takeda and its castle is the old silver mining town of Ikuno. Copious amounts of copper and silver were mined here for nearly a thousand years, the mines were closed in the 1970s.
